5th Annual Mid-Atlantic Ottomanist Workshop

The University of Richmond will host the Fifth Mid-Atlantic Ottomanist Workshop (MAOW) from February 28 to March 1, 2025. All events will take place in Ukrop Auditorium in the Robins School of Business.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for scholars of Ottoman Studies to meet, discuss their research, and receive feedback. MAOW aims to bring together scholars at all stages of their careers who are based in the Mid-Atlantic region and who are working to advance the study of the Ottoman Empire and its interactions with the wider world from the fifteenth to the early twentieth centuries. More than 30 scholars will participate in this fifth meeting, which will cover a range of topics: mysticism, migration, minority populations, administration, pious endowments, and others.

The workshop is made possible with generous support from the School of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office, the Cultural Affairs Committee, and the Department of History.
